Late/Absence Procedures

We are now operating a new sign in procedure for pupils that arrive via the school office after the school gates have closed at 8.55am. This new system will enable lateness to be logged automatically by parents/carers.

How will it work?

  • Please escort your child to the office
  • Parent/Carer to click on the ‘pupils’ tab on the sign in screen in reception.
  • Choose ‘Sign In’
  • It will ask for your child’s Year Group, then class, then first initial of their first name.
  • Select your child
  • Provide reason for lateness

Children who arrive late are greatly disadvantaged because they miss starting the day with their peers and the beginning of lessons. Their teacher will not always be able to re explain work, once the lesson has started.

It is also important that children establish good routines and habits in preparation for the rest of their lives. Punctuality is a life skill that they need to develop whilst they are young. It is essential that you ensure that your child arrives at school on time to prevent disruption to your child’s own learning and that of others.

We are required to monitor children’s punctuality and attendance. On-going lateness (after the class register has been taken) is classified as an unauthorised absence and this is contrary to The Education Act.

We understand that there may be rare occasions when you are unavoidably late due to unforeseen circumstances. On these occasions please contact the school office to inform us when you will arrive.

If you are having difficulties in getting your children to school on time, please do get in touch to see how we can support you and your child.

All sickness absences need to be reported to school on the day of the absence, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Request for absence needs to be submitted via the form below and available from the school office. This needs to be returned to the school office.
